Born in 1965 in Tamluk, West Bengal, Paresh Maity is a highly productive Indian painter. He completed his undergraduate studies in fine arts in Kolkata before earning his master's degree from the College of Art in New Delhi, where he graduated at the top of his class. In recognition of his vast creative achievements, the Government of India presented him with the Padma Shri award in 2014.
Throughout his forty-year career, Maity has held 81 solo exhibitions globally. He initially gained recognition for masterfully painting natural scenery in watercolors, capturing locations ranging from Venice to the backwaters of Kerala. A pivotal stay in Rajasthan dramatically altered his style, causing his artwork to burst with intense, vibrant colors. Over time, he moved from landscapes into abstract experimentation, eventually focusing on human figures. His modern pieces feature bold, graphic styles that emphasize closely cropped, stylized faces filled with diverse expressions.
Maity crafted India's longest painting, which extends over 850 feet, and created the "Sound of Silence" installation for the Delhi Airport. His major collections are preserved in prestigious institutions like the British Museum. Based in New Delhi, Maity lives and works alongside his wife, fellow artist Jayasri Burman.
