About Vivek Kumavat
Vivek Kumavat is a talented Indian artist known for his unique paintings of the Indian Zebu bull, "Nandi," the sacred vehicle of Lord Shiva in Hindu mythology. Born and raised in a small town surrounded by animals, Vivek developed a deep admiration for the bull’s strength, gentleness, and cultural importance. His artwork combines tradition with modernity, showcasing intricate details and vibrant colors inspired by ancient Indian art.
Vivek holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, and an A.T.D. from Khiroda, Jalgaon. He has spent over a decade researching and painting Nandi and Shiva, creating visual stories on the bull’s body. These stories include significant events from Shiva’s life, like his marriage to Parvati and the creation of Ganesh. The background of his paintings often features a modern interpretation of Shiva, ensuring the viewer remains connected to the deity.
Nandi is central to all of Vivek's work, symbolizing power, patience, and endurance. The bulls in his paintings are shown with muscular bodies and lively expressions, reflecting human emotions. Vivek hopes his art inspires viewers to develop inner strength and contentment. His cheerful color palette of red, orange, gold, yellow, and blue adds a joyful touch to his creations.
Vivek’s work also incorporates elements of Pattachitra, a traditional Indian scroll-painting style known for detailed illustrations of myths and folktales. On Nandi’s skin, he carefully paints scenes from Hindu mythology, making each piece a blend of storytelling and artistry.
His paintings have been featured in over 20 solo and group exhibitions at prestigious galleries like Jehangir Art Gallery and Sir J.J. Applied Art Gallery in Mumbai, and Triveni Kala Sangam in New Delhi. Internationally, his work has been shown in Dubai, Singapore, and London.
Vivek welcomes commissions and customizes his paintings to suit individual tastes and spaces. His art stands out for its intricate details, cultural richness, and meaningful narratives. Each piece is hand-signed and comes with a certificate of authenticity. His paintings, which honor Nandi's majestic spirit, are a blend of tradition, creativity, and positivity, making them a prized addition to any art collection.
