Born in Jaipur in 1949, Shaikh Usman Tirandaz was an exceptional contemporary painter recognized as a modern Mughal miniature master. Tracing his ancestral roots back to the historic royal art workshops of Emperor Akbar, his family name reflects an enduring lineage of classic warrior-artists.
His distinctive oeuvre seamlessly fused traditional Mughal and Safavid Persian aesthetics with bold contemporary scales. Tirandaz was widely celebrated for his naturalistic, highly detailed depictions of rich flora and fauna, such as vibrant kingfishers and life-sized porcupines. By rendering meticulous patterns onto large canvases using watercolors and stone pigments, he beautifully innovated miniature art before his passing in 2021.
