New Delhi-based contemporary artist Suraj Kumar Kashi originally hails from Jamui, Bihar. His personal relocation from a peaceful hometown to a bustling metropolis profoundly influences his creative vision, resulting in a continuous dialogue between rural simplicity and urban complexity.
Kashi expertly blends traditional Indian folklore and mythology with modern surrealism, reshaping classic tales into modern truths. His canvases display fluid, floating figures and vibrant colors that focus heavily on feminine identity, portraying women breaking free from traditional boundaries to express liberation and inner resilience. He frequently integrates symbolic elements like clocks, open cages, and birds to explore concepts of time and renewal.
Working with a combination of oil and acrylic paints, he builds a dreamlike depth across his surfaces. Kashi also creates tactile, socially conscious installations, illustrating that ancestral heritage and contemporary life are deeply connected continuations of one another rather than opposing forces.
