About Sreekanth Kurva

Sreekanth Kurva is an accomplished artist who has made a significant mark in the Indian art scene, particularly known for his ability to connect human emotions with animal expressions. He completed his BFA in Painting with distinction from the College of Fine Arts, JNTU, Hyderabad, in 1994. Two years later, in 1996, he earned his MFA in Graphics from the prestigious Faculty of Fine Arts at M.S. University, Baroda.

Sreekanth's journey as an artist began early, with his first group show in 1990 at the Hotel Ashoka Conference Hall in Warangal, Andhra Pradesh. Over the years, he has participated in numerous exhibitions across India, including well-known venues like Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai and Art Konsult in New Delhi. His solo exhibitions have been held at prominent galleries such as Art Core Gallery in Baroda and Shrishti Art Gallery in Hyderabad.

His unique approach to portraying animals sets Sreekanth apart from many other artists. Growing up on a family farm, he spent much time observing animals like bulls, roosters, rabbits, goats, and fish. This close connection allowed him to develop a deep understanding of these creatures, which he now brings to life in his art. Sreekanth doesn’t just depict animals as they are; he delves into their spirits, capturing their moods and emotions in a way that reflects human feelings. This ability to blend human and animal expressions creates a powerful and relatable experience for viewers.

Sreekanth uses a variety of media, materials, textures, and colors in his artwork. His technique is complex and thoughtful, yet the results are accessible and impactful. The animals he portrays seem to communicate their inner lives, making them more than just subjects of art—they become a medium through which Sreekanth explores deeper emotional and existential themes.

Through his work, Sreekanth encourages viewers to see beyond the surface and recognize the shared emotions between humans and animals. His art invites reflection on our connections with the natural world and the creatures that inhabit it. This connection is not just physical but emotional, as Sreekanth’s art reveals the shared experiences of life, struggle, and vitality between humans and animals.

Overall, Sreekanth Kurva’s art is a celebration of life in all its forms. By focusing on animals, he highlights the often-overlooked emotional depth in these creatures and connects it to our own human experiences. His work is both a tribute to the animals he grew up with and a profound commentary on the universality of emotions. This unique perspective, combined with his technical skill and creative use of materials, makes Sreekanth Kurva an artist of great significance in contemporary Indian art.
