Gujarat-based artist Sarika Mehta, born in Ahmedabad, creates deeply reflective and quiet artworks rooted in her personal history and memories. Her minimalist style relies heavily on meaningful metaphors expressed through a subtle, mostly monochromatic color scheme. Formally trained in both painting and printmaking, she expresses her vision across diverse mediums, including oil paints, watercolors, drawings, and physical installations.
Mehta’s academic journey began with a painting diploma from Ahmedabad's C.N. College of Fine Arts in 2000, followed by studio work at the Kanoria Centre for Arts. She later secured a post-diploma in printmaking from M.S. University, Baroda, in 2004, worked at the Priyasri Art Studio, and completed an international printmaking residency at the Jean-Yves Noblet Contemporary Prints Studio in New York.
Her engagement with printmaking profoundly altered her artistic process and concept of composition. Because printmaking is inherently collaborative and requires sharing limited studio equipment, the experience taught her how to maintain an internal state of mindfulness and solitude even when surrounded by a crowd. Furthermore, navigating the sharp contrasts of black-and-white printing fundamentally trained her to integrate a distinct sense of open, physical space directly into her visual art.
