Born in Kolkata in 1975, Pappu Bardhan is a contemporary painter whose creative practice centers on environmental preservation. He earned his Bachelor of Visual Arts in Painting from Rabindra Bharati University before moving to Gujarat, where he completed his Master of Fine Arts in Graphics at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in 2001. Today, he continues to live and create his artwork from his studio in Baroda.
For over a decade, Bardhan has relied on watercolors on paper to investigate the fragile relationship between humanity and the environment. His core artistic concept, "Nature Reconstructed," highlights how aggressive city expansion and climbing population numbers dismantle natural ecosystems. To counter these destructive shifts, his paintings celebrate the quiet harmony between living organisms and their surroundings. He frequently populates his frames with quiet ponds, lotus leaves, local birds, and ripe fruits, turning his works into a poignant lament for disappearing green areas.
His dedication to conservation has brought his work to audiences worldwide. Bardhan has participated in several high-profile group and solo shows at international spaces, including the NYB Gallery in Washington and the Tamarind Art Gallery in New York. Nationally, his pieces have been featured in major events such as the Birla Academy Annual exhibition and Aakriti Art Gallery's "Gen Next" showcase.
