About Harisha Chennangod

Harisha Chennangod is a contemporary artist from Kasargod, Kerala, now based in Vadodara, Gujarat. He completed his BFA in Painting from CAVA College, Mysore, and an MA in Museology from MS University, Baroda. His artistic journey includes working on projects by famous Indian artists.

Harisha’s art focuses on cityscapes, childhood memories, and handloom patterns. His unique style uses crisscrossing lines, gaps, and bold primary colors to create layered, grid-like compositions. These intricate patterns, resembling woven fabric, often include 12 to 18 layers, reflecting life’s balance between structure and freedom. The repetitive and meditative process of his work has been compared to Kabir’s spiritual poetry, offering a calming and reflective experience to viewers.

His paintings often explore the tension between order and chaos, using vibrant colors and meticulous details to evoke emotions. The lines in his artwork resemble threads on a loom, with some fading into open spaces, symbolizing the unknown and life’s complexities. Harisha’s works encourage viewers to find beauty in chaos and discover new meanings each time they engage with his art.

Harisha has participated in several prominent exhibitions and residencies across India and internationally. Notable showcases include Home - an Irrevocable Condition by the Kochi Biennale Foundation at Pepper House, and Iterations at Vida Hyderi Contemporary, Pune, in 2024. His works have also been displayed in collections in Paris and London. Harisha has participated in prestigious residencies such as the Post Graduate Residency at Vagamon by Kochi-Muziris Biennale, Visual Art Collective Art Residency in Bangalore, and “Niracharthu” Artist Camp in Thrissur, Kerala.

His works, titled Portrait of Present, use layered grids and lines to reflect on the woven nature of life. The deliberate layering process creates a visual tapestry that symbolizes memories, emotions, and the interconnectedness of existence. Harisha’s art blends vibrant colors with structured compositions to showcase the dynamic energy of the world around us.

Through his art, Harisha invites viewers to explore the complexities of life and find beauty in its intricate patterns. His work continues to evolve, gaining recognition for its originality and thought-provoking nature.
