About Ganapati Hegde
Ganapati Hegde, a contemporary artist from coastal Karnataka, creates vibrant paintings inspired by his childhood memories of the region. His artworks are filled with lush green landscapes and feature indigenous flora and fauna in imaginative compositions. Hegde blends reality with fantasy, using vivid colors and details to create enchanting scenes that evoke a sense of wonder. His deep connection to nature is evident in his work, aiming to encourage viewers to appreciate and protect the natural world.
Hegde was born in 1974 in Kumta, located in the Uttara Kannada District of Karnataka. He moved to Bangalore to complete his education, earning a Bachelor of Arts from Karnataka University in 2001 and a Diploma in Drawing and Painting from the Ken School of Arts in 1998. He also holds a Master’s in Fine Arts from Bengaluru Open University. Besides painting, Hegde worked as a Creative Designer at a software company but remained dedicated to his passion for art.
Hegde's artworks have been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Some of his selected solo exhibitions include "Fluid Space" in Bangalore (2003). His group exhibitions include the “Kala for Vidya” National Art Exhibition by the Rotary Club in Bangalore (2013), Kynkyny Art Gallery and Crimson Art Gallery in Bangalore. Hegde has been honored with numerous accolades throughout his career, notably receiving the 52nd National Award from the Lalit Kala Academy (2009-10) and the Camlin National Award from the Camlin Art Foundation (2011).
Hegde’s paintings often feature elements of storytelling adding fantastical and surprising details to his depictions of nature. He includes various animals, plants, and insects, all in bright and bold colors. The paintings often resemble a fable-like narrative, inviting viewers to see different perspectives. His works sometimes include symbolic representations of Indian gods and goddesses, while other pieces focus on animals that metaphorically reflect human behavior.
