About Farhad Hussain

Farhad Hussain is a talented artist known for his vibrant paintings that explore human relationships and their complexities. He graduated in 2003 from Shantiniketan and completed a postgraduate diploma from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Baroda in 2005.

Hussain’s art often centers on the human figure, creating narratives where each figure is connected to others. At first glance, his paintings may seem striking, but each figure plays a crucial role in the overall story, showcasing unique personalities that contribute to the narrative. His earlier works were simpler but laid the groundwork for the intricate style he developed in his current pieces. Farhad explains that his initial creations were influenced by everyday visual experiences, often infused with humor and sarcasm.

His recent works are more thought-provoking, incorporating layers of meaning and complexity. Farhad is known for his use of vibrant colors and bright backgrounds, with flat colors enhanced by detailed textile patterns. He primarily uses tempera on cloth, allowing for rich and vivid colors. His creative process involves careful planning of composition, followed by a spontaneous application of color, often using a dot-by-dot technique until the entire surface is filled.

Farhad draws inspiration from various art forms, including miniature paintings, Kalighat paintings, Japanese prints, and elements from mass media. He transforms these influences into his unique style, constantly striving to evolve and elevate his work to new aesthetic heights. His goal is to make a significant impact through his art.

In 2004, Farhad was awarded the Nasreen Mohamedi scholarship, and in 1998, he received the prize for best watercolor at the Indian Art College Art Exhibition. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions across major cities like Baroda, Mumbai, and Kolkata.

Some notable exhibitions include “Farhad’s World and Other Works” at Gallery Archana in 2024, “Stories in Art” and “Constructing Narratives” at Gallery Art Positive in 2022, and multiple displays at Arushi Arts in 2020. He has also shown his work at the Korea International Art Fair (KIAF) in 2015 and 2019.

Overall, Farhad Hussain is a dynamic artist whose work reflects the complexities of human relationships, expressed through a vivid and evolving artistic style.
