Asit Sarkar is a versatile contemporary Indian painter born in Durgapur in 1962. He received formal artistic training at the Government College of Arts and Crafts in Kolkata, earning his visual arts degree in 1988, before completing a master's degree from Rabindra Bharati University in 1992.
Sarkar is widely recognized for his elegant, gentle, and emotionally resonant portrayals of women, alongside divine themes involving Radha and Krishna. In his paintings, women are represented as compassionate, soulful individuals whose presence radiates joy and lifts the observer's mood. He skillfully navigates both abstract and semi-abstract styles across various materials. His rhythmic brushwork beautifully merges the flow of music with the rich, emotional color palettes characteristic of traditional Rajasthani miniature art.
Throughout his career, Sarkar has displayed his creations in numerous prestigious solo and group exhibitions across major Indian cities—such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Chandigarh—as well as international destinations, including London, Dubai, and Bangkok. His dedication to watercolor and oil mediums has earned him multiple institutional honors, including awards from the Society of Oriental Art and the Rajya Charukala Pradarshini.
