Ashish Kushwaha (born Bilaspur, 1987) is a contemporary Indian painter who built his artistic foundation at Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya in Khairagarh. His creative vision is deeply shaped by his early life in rural Chhattisgarh, near the Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary, where he closely observed the rhythmic harmony of nature.
Predominantly working with acrylics on canvas, Kushwaha focuses on the natural world as a displaced extension of our rapidly growing modern environment. He views wildlife as a powerful expression of ecological innocence, placing magnificent animals like rhinoceroses and birds directly into stark, concrete city spaces. This unexpected staging creates a silent, tense dialogue between industrial progress and environmental precarity, evoking a sense of urgent sobriety.
A defining feature of his style is his dreamlike play of light. Drawing inspiration from the luminous colors of changing skies, Kushwaha uses a vibrant, highly saturated palette to transform ordinary urban landscapes into a poetic, haunting reality. This approach allows him to celebrate the enduring spirit of nature while searching for environmental truth. His acclaimed works have been showcased in prestigious venues, including major national exhibitions and international platforms like Art Basel New York.
